Payday 3 Review
Following in the footsteps of the beloved Payday 2 and Payday: The Heist, Payday 3 seeks to be the newest and greatest addition to the Payday franchise. Having launched on September 21st of this year, I have already put in just over twenty hours of gameplay as of writing this review.
Looking at just the Steam page for Payday 3 does reveal several things of note. Mainly and most obvious is the poor overall rating the game has even a month after launch. With only around 50% of user reviews of the game being positive currently, the cracks in the game are easy to see.
Overall the combat is more fluid and weapon feedback is better than the other two games, as well as stealth being a far more forgiving and enjoyable experience. The real pains from the community come from the external factors of a mission. For instance progression, which is locked behind specific challenges often requiring the repeating of a heist or task a myriad of times. The second and what will likely be the most detrimental is the game’s monetization scheme, and lack of content and updates.
In its current state, Payday 3 is still a fun and engaging cooperative shooter, however, its predecessor Payday 2 despite its age is still a far more streamlined and content rich experience. But for those who want to experience the new story and see payday in a whole new game engine, Payday 3 is a good time especially with a few friends to heist alongside you.
